Are you dreaming of exploring Poland in the form of an epic road trip? This historic country offers plenty of adventures for anyone, regardless of age, or what your personal preferences might be.
Poland has it all, from bustling large cities, to idyllic villages in the countryside. From historic buildings dating back to the medieval time period, to modern art installations and a vibrant night life. And in order to see as much as possible, a road trip is the perfect way to do just that!
Preparing for Your Road Trip
Whether you have completed many road trips before or not, it is important to prepare before setting off on your journey. If you have no clue about what to prepare for, then don’t worry as we will guide you to success.
Checking your vehicle is the most important step, as your car not only is responsible for bringing you from place to place, but also in keeping you and your family or friends safe while on the road.
Therefore you should check all the basic things, like tire pressure, fluid levels, and brakes and so on. If you are planning for a long road trip, then perhaps having a professional mechanic doing the check is a good idea.
You will also need to prepare a list of navigational tools and apps for your time on the road. While old-school maps might be outdated due to the smartphone, it is always a good idea to carry a physical map in the back, just in case your battery dies or the service cuts out in the middle of the mountains.
And last for the preparations, we recommend you to bring an emergency kit with essentials like a first aid box, flashlight, and basic tools for fixing your car in a pinch. We also recommend bringing emergency water bottles, and maybe some trail mix or snacks just in case.
Familiarize Yourself With Your Options
Next up, it is important to also be aware of your options if your car breaks down, or if you need to contact the authorities, emergency services, or even your embassy or lawyer. Therefore, we recommend that you compile a list of phone numbers, e-mails and other contact information of the most likely companies and people, so you can contact them easily if you need to.
Many people forget to consider things such as insurance, local hostels to spend the night, pharmacies for emergency medicine, and even roadside assistance, but having the phone number of a local company can be a big help.
At the very least, you should know how to find things in the local area. This way, if you are traveling to Ogrodzieniec Castle near the city of Dąbrowa Górnicza, knowing you can Google “Pomoc Drogowa Dąbrowa Górnicza ” and get help, can be important if your car should break down in the middle of the empty road at night.
In the same vein, it can also be a good idea to have a basic understanding of some commonly spoken words in Polish. English may not be universally spoken, especially the further away from the larger cities you are, so having practiced your Polish on duolingo for a few weeks, or at least having voice activated Google Translate installed on your phone can be a great help in communicating with locals.
That’s it for now. We hope you found inspiration for preparing and making sure that your road trip to Poland will be a success! Let us know in the comments if you have any questions or other good tips.
